Using Contacts

Adding Contacts

This is where we try to ensure we have a current database of contact information and website links for organisations, Rags, and related companies that participate in the student fundraising arena.


Permissions Note:

You will need to be a member of one of the groups that has access to this facility and you may find that your contact record is put in a queue for validation by an administrator. Currently you need to be either a member of the "Charity Rep", "Raggies" or "Old Hacks" group.


Storing web links

If you only wish to install a web link to the contacts section you only need to:

  • Click on "Add Link" at the bottom of the contacts page
  • Fill out the information required:
    • Link Name
    • Link Description
    • Select an appropriate category for your Link (Tip: You can choose more than one category for your link by holding down the CTRL key as you click on each of the relevant categories)
    • Link URL (ie: the web address itself)
    • Set Link Access (see below)
    • Featured link? - this is only used for links that should appear on the front page. As a rule leave it unticked.


Storing address info

This is done much the same as a web link except you have two ways to do it:


Adding a new address

This is what you need to do if you are adding a completely new contact record (ie: one that doesn't already have a link).

Simply click on the "Add Address" link at the bottom of the contacts page and then fill out the form in the same way that you would an address record, but obviously with address information in the appropriate fields.


Adding a new address to an existing link record

This is only possible for someone who originally added the link record..

All you do is navigate to the link record then click the [Add Address] link attached to it. From there you just add the address information and it will be updated.


Limiting Access to Links/Address details

Some address information may need to be kept restricted to specific usergroups or simply stored for your own reference. You can do this using the "Link/Address Access" fields.

Access rights can be limited to:

  • Public - viewable by all.
  • Usergroup - viewable by the usergroups you've selected.


Getting contact information updated

Depending on the permissions available to you, you'll either be able to update your contact record yourself or you may have to ask for the record(s) to be updated by emailing/PM'ing one of the administrators or UKRag team members.
