Posting and Quoting

How to post using "quotes"

This is pretty simple really if you have a post that you want to quote you just click on the Quote button at the top and you get a post input form with something like this in the post field...

[quote="original poster"]This is the original blurb from the original poster... blah blah blah[/quote]

So long as you keep your own comments outside of the [quote][/quote] boxes your text will appear outside of the quoted text.

How to break up a looong quote

When someone has posted a very long post and you want to address various parts of it in a structured way then you just need to remember to keep each of the bits you want to quote between those all important [quote][/quote] tags.. You can have more than one so an example might be..

[quote="original poster"]Well I believe yadda ya... blah, yawn, snort[/quote]

.. and you respond to this first point here..

[quote]but of course the second bit is snort yawn blah, burp[/quote]

... well this is true and I'll respond to your second bit here

[quote]but I don't know when to shuttup so my 3rd point is... [/quote]

... erm.. learn to shuttup while I get bored or responding to all your points, etc...

What's the difference between [quote="some name"] and [quote]

Using the [quote="username"] attributes the quote to a particular user so the quote will appear as

username wrote

blah, yawn, snort, burp

.. whereas just using [quote] will result in the quote being shown without attribution.

Easy when you know how.. :)
