the institute of fundraising often badly word or make stuff up without actually examining how a particular job or activity can be practically done,

if i were to follow their "rules" for how to do my fundraising job, it'd become non-viable and unsafe

the act states " must not importune in such a manner as to cause undue obstruction or offence"

that is all ...

kudos to stu from lufbra for getting in the paper

The Daily Mail certainly importunes me in a manner causing undue offense...

nor does the article whinge about the IoF's laughable ideas on the use of static collection boxes in shops and pubs, of which the RBL has thousands ...

lack of thorough journalism from the Daily Fail ? or just a reprint of a very good press release by the Legion ??? [/dark side]

I felt the need to use the info here to comment on the article to correct em and also let IoF sources know what's been said... result seems to be that the article has been updated to remove any reference to the Institute of Fundraising... or Institute of British Fundraising as they'd put it (couldn't even get their name right could they)... clearly they didn't want their name anywhere near this...

Ultimately it's just sloppy outcry journalism, take a couple of half-baked misunderstandings, ring round some MP's who'll comment on anything for a bit of publicity without checking the facts first and bingo... you've got a story... Rolling Eyes

I agree with Jasonicus, it is extremely sloppy journalism

The inclusion of this is all too telling "The Royal British Legion head office has been hastily sending out newsletters and holding meetings to ensure members are fully aware of the rules." Utter rubbish and logistically impossible. Generally if its a problem it is sorted at collector level, the RBL trusts its volunteers and any "official" wanting to throw their weight about tend to find very quickly that the police feel they have better things to do, basically as many police are exforces.
